Marin DSX2 Exploring Cyprus
Like many people I am probably guilty of sticking to the well trodden known routes in my local area that we all do on our bikes when we head out for a ride.
I noticed on a few runs, walks and drives in my local area that there seemed an abundence of small tracks shooting off into areas I had not explored. There was always so much curiousity of where they led to but I always stucked to what I knew, and never headed down them.
That was until the other day. That day I was going to explore Cyprus - on two wheels!
I grabbed my still "relatively new" Marin DSX2 and decided to spend the morning with no plans or route, but instead I would just go off and see where they took me.
And as written by Alastair Humphreys in his Doorstep Mile book, it was absolutely amazing.
Firstly, there was no-one on them. I had undisturbed trails for over an hour.
I saw views out onto the sea I'd never seen before, and stumbled upon things which fascianted me which I had no idea what they were.
I found a new trail which offers a great alternative to a boring road running route I do, and even got tested with some interesting sandy sections.

There are still tracks I know I want to explore but didn't get time to do this week, but I am more excited to try them now after the fun of this ride.
It was also a decent reminder on the benefits of having a bike which allows you to go off-road and explore, rather than being restricted to the tarmac. The Marin DSX2 was an ace little bike for this and I look forward to taking into the mountains to really put it to the test - no technical single track stuff, just seeing what else I can ridable in the mountains.
So this short but sweet blog post is your reminder to go exploring. You don't need to go far, you don't need to go for long - but you do have to go!
